Mumbai: Ramesh Latke, the Shiv Sena MLA from Mumbai, died due to a cardiac arrest in Dubai, according to a party official. He was 52.Latke served two terms as a Shiv Sena legislator from the Andheri East Assembly constituency in Mumbai city, the Maharashtra capital."Latke died on Wednesday in Dubai, where he had gone with his family on a vacation," said a party office-bearer. While the Latke's family was out shopping, he passed away.The party office-bearer added: "We have informed Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and other senior party leaders about initiating the procedure to bring his body back to India. We hope that the body will be brought back on Thursday."Sanjay Raut, the Shiv Sena MP and chief spokesperson, said Ramesh Latke died around midnight."I spoke with him just last evening... He was absolutely fine... And then around midnight, the sad news came...," Raut, who looked visibly upset, said."We are now making efforts to bring his mortal remains to Mumbai for the last rites maybe tomorrow or so," added Raut.Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi remembered Latke for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic."Saddened and shocked to hear about the passing of Shri Ramesh Latke ji. His constant energy, his dedicated work during COVID & his connect with the constituency was immense. He will be missed& he has gone too soon. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues," she tweeted.Meanwhile, BJP MLA Nitesh Rane, the son of Union minister Narayan Rane, took to Twitter and expressed shock at the sudden demise of Ramesh Latke. Shiv Sena is currently sharing power in Maharashtra with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress.
